Our Team

Meet the Team

At Bridging Abilities, supports are overseen by people who know our participants personally. Our Service Manager is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of supports across our services, and is present, contactable and known by name to the people we support.

Why this work matters

For Tamara, working in this sector is much more than a career. Her decision to enter the industry was shaped by her own lived experience within the youth sector, as well as lived experience within her own family. These experiences gave her a genuine understanding of the importance of having people in the industry who listen, advocate and genuinely care. She believes every person receiving support deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and genuine individuality — and that the standard of care we provide should be the same standard we would want for someone we love.

How Tamara works

Tamara particularly enjoys working alongside people with complex backgrounds and support needs. She loves problem-solving, building relationships and seeing the positive changes that happen when the right support, consistency and relationships are in place. She is passionate about continuity of care and creating a personalised experience for every participant, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Although Tamara holds a management position, she believes being a good manager means being present and approachable. She regularly visits participants, checks in with them and makes a point of knowing the people behind the support plans. Participants know Tamara by name and face, and see her as someone they can talk to — not simply "the boss." As a manager she describes herself as fair, empathetic and approachable, while also being willing to have the difficult conversations when they are needed. Her personality brings plenty of energy to the workplace, with a combination of positivity, humour, problem-solving and, as she puts it, "a little bit of bossiness."

Outside of work

Tamara is a mum and has a puppy. She enjoys an active lifestyle, having previously played rugby league, and loves music, meeting new people and creating connections within her community.

At the heart of everything Tamara does is her belief that people deserve to feel seen, heard and genuinely supported. She wants Bridging Abilities to be a service where participants and their families feel known as individuals, staff feel supported, and everyone has the opportunity to build meaningful connections and work towards the life they want.

We asked Tamara how the people around her would describe her in three words. "They would probably say: loud, funny and giving — and I wouldn't disagree."
